Kirby Jacobsen—drummer, composer, author—has been playing drums professionally since the age of 13. He attended the University of Miami for Studio Music & Jazz and the William Paterson University for Jazz Performance.

Kirby has been a member of the Carmen Nappo youth Symphony, the Miami Beach Symphony and the Hanover Wind Symphony.  He has performed extensively—both live and in the studio—with big bands and small combos, covering many musical styles including jazz, fusion, rock, latin jazz and world music.  He has performed with notable musicians such as Ira Sullivan, Gary Campbell, Dave Liebman, Rafael Cruz and Jerry Jemmot. Kirby also leads his own Blue Brush Trio which performs in the NY/NJ metro area.

Kirby is a published author of 2 books for solo snare drum: Stick Twisters: A Dirty Dozen 'n One Solos for Snare Drum (Black River Music Plus) and Not Just Another Snare Solo Book:  20 Uncommon Solos for Snare Drum (HaMaR Percussion Publications).  He has dozens of published pieces for the percussion ensemble as well (Rhythmic Expressions Music Publications).  Kirby has also contributed articles for The Black Page Online Magazine, DRUMGEEK.COM and Rhythm! Scene online publication (Percussive Arts Society).
